This policy explains, in plain language, what our Food Safety Training Certificate is — and what it is not — so you can make an informed decision before enrolling.
What our certificate is
- HandlerWise provides private food safety training. Our certificate is not a government-issued license.
- The certificate is not automatically accepted by every government authority or employer.
- Users are responsible for checking their jurisdiction — state, county, city — before enrolling.
- State and local regulations can change over time.
- We aim to keep our state information updated but do not guarantee legal acceptance in any jurisdiction.
- Employer acceptance cannot be guaranteed.
- Completing the course does not automatically authorize a person to work in a regulated food establishment.
- Where a state, county or city requires training from a specifically approved provider, our certificate may not satisfy that requirement.
Evidence of training
Even where the certificate does not replace a legally required state or local Food Handler Card, it can still provide employers with evidence that the certificate holder has completed food safety training covering personal hygiene, cross-contamination, time and temperature control, cleaning and sanitizing, and allergen awareness.

Before enrolling, visit our state requirements page to see general information for your state, and confirm current rules with your state, county, or city health department, and with your employer, since requirements can differ even within the same state.
If your certificate isn't accepted
If an authority or employer does not accept your HandlerWise certificate, contact us and let us know — this helps us keep our state information accurate for future students. Depending on the circumstances, you may also be eligible for a refund under our Refund Policy.
