This policy explains what information HandlerWise collects when you take the food safety course, sit the assessment and purchase a Food Safety Training Certificate; how that information is used and shared; how long it is kept; and the choices you have over it. It applies to handlerwise.com and to the certificate verification pages.
Information we collect
We collect:
- Certificate details — the name, email address, date of birth, state and employer you enter when generating your certificate. Your date of birth is used to distinguish students with the same name. Your name, date of birth and employer are printed on the certificate itself, so anyone you give the certificate to can see them.
- Enrollment and progress data — modules completed, assessment attempts and scores. Course progress is stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Payment metadata — transaction ID and payment status via our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
- Support communications — messages you send us via email or the contact form.
- Basic technical data — device and browser information collected automatically to keep the site secure and working correctly.
How we use information
We use your information to deliver the course, generate and store certificates, provide customer support, process payments, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Cookies and analytics
We use a limited number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your course progress, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect course progress tracking.
Third-party service providers
We share information with service providers who help us operate HandlerWise, including our payment processor and email delivery provider. These providers are only permitted to use your data to perform services on our behalf and must protect it consistent with this policy.
Certificate verification
Public verification pages display the student's name, course, issue and expiration date, provider name and certificate status. We never publish student email addresses or contact details.
Data retention
We retain student and certificate records to allow long-term verification, subject to applicable law. Support communications are retained only as long as needed to resolve your request and meet our record-keeping obligations.
Children's privacy
HandlerWise is intended for use by individuals old enough to be employed in food service roles in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from young children.
International users
If you access HandlerWise from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be processed in a different jurisdiction, which may have different data protection laws than your own.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions (for example, records we must retain for certificate verification).
